MISSION

IAMA THEATRE COMPANY is a Los Angeles-based ensemble of artists committed to cultivating new voices and creating new works that push boundaries and take risks, while fostering an inclusive community that inspires theatre-makers of future generations. IAMA is invested in challenging our audiences with an authentic experience that reflects our complex modern world.

Vision

We envision a Los Angeles theatre landscape that is robust, inclusive, and offers the very best professional opportunities for theatre artists, and high quality theatrical productions. We see IAMA Theatre Company as a major facilitator of the evolution of this Los Angeles landscape, modeling change and possibility for the American Theatre. IAMA is on the path to becoming a long standing mid-size theatrical institution in the greater Los Angeles area. Our legacy will be one of multi-level offerings for both artists and audiences. We see a future full of collaborations with other like-minded theatres, developing new works from the ground up, sharing our ensemble driven ethos with our fellow theatre-makers. We seek to maintain the highest standards in providing artists a living wage, this includes everyone from our actors, playwrights, directors, designers, to our staff and stagehands, front of house and beyond. Our Education platform will be at the core of our outreach to our larger Los Angeles community, including paid fellowships for Artists in Residence. Our marketing efforts will set a new standard of accessibility in theatre for all to see, experience and consume. We seek to bring those who have never traditionally been to the theater into our world. Our doors will always be open.

VALUES

We have set forth the following values as we seek to better support the creation of art and the cultivation of artists that challenge boundaries and take risks. We will work to foster an inclusive community that inspires artists today, and for generations to come. We will hold ourselves and our collaborators to the highest caliber of respect, trust, and integrity by maintaining efficient communication, institutional transparency, and personal boundaries.  We want to pride ourselves on actively acknowledging and respecting our artists, communities, histories, and points of view, while being a safe space where artists can create regardless of gender, race, ability, socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, and access.

  • CREATIVITY - We support the creation of art and the cultivation of artists that challenge boundaries and take risks all while fostering an inclusive community that inspires the artists of the future generations.

  • PROFESSIONALISM - We hold ourselves and our collaborators to the highest caliber of respect, trust, and integrity by maintaining efficient communication, institutional transparency, and personal boundaries.

  • CARING - We actively acknowledge and respect our artists, communities, histories, and points of view.

  • ACCEPTANCE - We are a safe space where artists can create regardless of gender, race, ability, socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, and access.

  • TRUST - The foundation of trust is having confidence in knowing we all share the same vision, goals and values. Trust and mutual respect lead to accountability.

  • COMMUNICATION - We believe in full transparency and authentic communication to create a fearless environment within the ensemble to better communicate beyond the ensemble.

We hope you will join us and challenge us as we know these values are ambitious, anti-racist, and counter white supremacist culture.

Please stay tuned as we continue to report back on our strides towards a brighter future of theatre, where everyone is heard, paid, and respected equitably for their talent.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

IAMA Theatre Company is based in Los Angeles on the sacred site of the Tongva/Gabrielino Nations who have lived and continue to live here. We recognize the Tongva/Gabrielino Nations and their spiritual connection as the first stewards and the traditional caretakers of this land. We honor them as the first storytellers of our Los Angeles community and we thank them for their strength, perseverance and resistance. We respect and value the many ways their cultural heritage and beliefs continue to have significance to the living people and remind us about the sacred and spiritual relationship that has always existed here.
