New Play Development
Since 2007, IAMA Theatre Company has been dedicated to developing new plays and musicals. IAMA offers a variety of development opportunities for both emerging and established playwrights.
Commissions
Our playwriting and musical commissions help to create a long-lasting relationship between IAMA and the diverse voices we help to develop, with an emphasis on working towards a future full production. By incorporating the talent and inspiration of our ensemble into the development of writers and their work, IAMA hopes to create a growing and dynamic family of artists.
The RHIMES UNSUNG VOICES Playwriting Commission
Sponsored and inspired by groundbreaking producer and writer Shonda Rhimes, and the Rhimes Foundation, The Rhimes Unsung Voices Playwriting Commission supports a writer from an underrepresented community, who has been minimally professionally produced, but not had a commercial, Off-Broadway, or Broadway production of their work. Writers who are actively pursuing a career in the theater will be strongly considered.
The Rhimes Foundation was established in 2016 by writer/producer Shonda Rhimes and her family. The foundation was created to support arts, education, and activism with a focus on promoting cultural inclusion, fighting for equality, and standing up against bigotry of any kind.
The FourthWall Musical commission
The FourthWall Musical Commission supports the development of a new musical from inception to first workshop. This commission is geared towards artists who are interested in developing new musicals in a collaborative environment with the goal of a potential future production with IAMA Theatre Company.
FourthWall Theatrical is a boutique production company that develops and produces artist-driven, of-the-moment content, guided by the core belief that deep care for artists begets great art. Founded by Jana Bezdek and Jen Hoguet, FourthWall works to find each story its proper platform, while staying true to its founders' theatrical roots. Jen and Jana pride themselves on collaborating closely with artists and are dedicated to elevating marginalized voices, identities, backgrounds, and stories.
