Writer/performer Rotana Tarabzouni’s rousing one-woman show with original pop music, Rotana—Alien of Extraordinary Ability, will be workshopped in February. Featuring a book by Tarabzouni, Banna Desta and Hayley Gene Penner; music by Tarabzouni and Penner; and direction by Zhailon Levingston, this concert memoir of Tarabzouni’s “pilgrimage to self” takes the audience on a journey of self realization in the face of Saudi tradition, God, family and The Erotic. Balancing a profound love for her mother with a wild adventure in Los Angeles, Tarabzouni sheds light on the immigrant experience and on the biggest risk of all: to be oneself. The workshop will culminate with one public Pay-What-You-Can performance on Monday, February 27 at 8 p.m.
Atwater Village Theatre is located at 3269 Casitas Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90039. Free parking is available in the ATX (Atwater Crossing) lot one block south of the theater.
